School Wide
Shared Reading Period
In shared reading, the teacher, as an expert
reader, models the reading process by reading the text to the
learners. The teacher demonstrates the use of clues and
strategies which support interpretation and evaluation.
Learners have opportunities to join in with the reading, and
thereby become confident in using these strategies
independently.
At Clearlake, we model this concept every day during our homeroom.
If you walk around during 1st period you will see students
actively engaged in their novel as the teacher reads aloud to
them. We have chosen to read Alane Ferguson's young adult
forensic novels with an author visit as the culminating event.
For more information about the author and her books please visit
her website at
